Dr. Rachel Brown is a family physician board-certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians. She received her MD from Boston University School of Medicine in 2000 and completed her residency training at the Palmetto Health Family Medicine Residency Program in 2003, followed by a Faculty Development fellowship at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Dr. Brown is experienced in the medical care of infants, children and adolescents, young and middle-aged adults, pregnant women, and the elderly in the inpatient, outpatient, and in-home settings. 

 

Dr. Brown worked as the predoctoral director and associate residency program director at the Palmetto Health Family Medicine Residency for twelve years where she provided patient care, including starting their home visit service; taught medical students, residents, and fellows across the system; and assisted with administrative oversight and direction of learner programs and evaluation in the family medicine department. 

 

After working on special wellness projects for team members as a wellness consultant for a year, she was hired by Prisma Health in 2016 as the Medical Director of Prevention and Wellness in the Employer Health Services department.  In that role, she participated in the design and development and provided clinical and administrative oversight of workforce health and wellness programs for the healthcare system as well as numerous business clients across South Carolina.

 

As owner of Thriving Workforce Solutions, Dr. Brown currently provides education and consultation to organizations in an effort to create a happy, healthy and productive workforces.  She has special expertise in workforce wellbeing and is a certified Corporate Wellness Specialist through the Corporate Health and Wellness Association.  She has additional certifications in Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and Psychological First Aid from Johns Hopkins University. 

 

Dr. Brown is an Artistic Associate at Columbia Children’s Theatre where she teaches musical theater dance and choreographs musical theater productions.  She is also a staff artist for Papa Tank Theatre of Inclusion and serves as the movement director.  Additionally, she is the owner of Free To Move Fitness, LLC, a family fitness company that provides health education, fitness classes, and wellness coaching to adults and children, especially those with or at risk for chronic disease.  She is certified in group fitness from the American Council on Exercise Group Fitness Instructor and in youth fitness from the International Youth Conditioning Association.
